L'Hôpital's Rule

Evaluates 0/0 and ∞/∞ indeterminate limits.

x \to a lim \frac{f ( x )}{g ( x )} = x \to a lim \frac{f ^{'} ( x )}{g ^{'} ( x )}

Variables

f, g: Functions with f(a) = g(a) = 0 (or both infinite)

Explanation

Only apply it to indeterminate forms $\frac{0}{0}$ or $\frac{\infty}{\infty}$ , and differentiate numerator and denominator separately (not with the quotient rule).

Example

$lim_{x \to 0} \frac{s i n x}{x} = lim_{x \to 0} \frac{c o s x}{1} = 1$ .
